Thesis Title: Mediation & Co-constitution: A Study of Design and Engagement Across Young People's Virtual Spaces

Dr. David Oswell

About

My current research explores the relationships between young people’s virtual spaces and the social actors participating in their production and use. I focus in particular on websites for children and teenagers aged 8-14, focusing on virtual spaces that provide spaces for social interaction.

A central interest of this research is to explore the ways in which adult producers, child users and virtual spaces come to be constituted through the socio-material processes of the design, development, production, distribution and use of the media product. Thus how each constitutes and is constituted through and within these processes, with a strong emphasis on the emergent spatial and temporal dimensions of these processes.
